05/15/2013 - Performed Maintnence on the weather station. Cleaned out hygrometer and fixed a sticky anonometer with a few quick burts of compressed air. Should be a little more accurate at low wind speeds now. Sidenote: Weather station will be moving a to a long term permanent position in the next few months and will sadly be leaving Decatur. At that time I will archive this and all the new updates into an archive link on the new homepage. Will provide more info as that becomes available.
03/13/2013 - The weather cam seems to be working flawlessly and the drain isn't noticeable. Will be leaving this feature enabled until I see a reason not too. Also took a picture of the station for any curious minds. Picture of Station.
03/09/2013 - New weather cam installed and link updated on this page. Will be testing this and the drain on the internet feed. May or may not be permanent addtion.
02/01/2013 - The storm from 01/30/2013 that brought tornadoes to the North-East GA area was also responsible for toppling and leaving minor damage on my station components. Lesson learned that station needs better anchoring to the roof. Also found the reason for the battery issues. The battery holder compartment contact springs are not aligned. Fixing and testing tonight inside the house so will not publish data to server until later after station has been throughly checked out first.
01/13/2012 - Most of the issues have been resolved or mitigated to acceptable level and weather station is secured. Also installed a Ham Radio base station antenna on the stand with the weather sation.
01/04/2012 - Station still being tested. Installed in final location, though, not secured. Final testing being performed.
12/30/2012 - Identified interesting chemistry issue that was causing station transmitter station to go offline in the middle of the night. I was using cheap AA batteries from a dollar store to power the station, which is just simple alkaline. When it gets close to 35 degrees, according to the logs, the batteries do not have enough capacity and the station no longer is able to transmit data to the base station. Solution will be to purchase and test using lithium batteries which are rated down to -20 degrees, which Georgia never sees. Will purchase shortly and begin testing.
Addendum - Lithium batteries installed and testing.
12/25/2012 - Weather station received. Station installed in test stand. Data is semi-accurate, but should not be trusted until installed in final location. At this time, testing has begun and data is being received and displayed per above. Will continue to work out bugs in the system as they present themselves.
12/14/2012 - New weather station hardware has been ordered and should arrive before the end of the year. Should have station operational again before 2013. (Here's to hoping.)
